Easy Summer Hosting Ideas: 3 Simple Ways to Host Without the Stress
Looking for simple ways to host without the stress? Whether you're planning a summer dinner party or a relaxed night with friends, these easy hosting ideas will help you pull it off without overthinking. I’m sharing my go-to summer hosting setup, including my favorite Trader Joe’s finds, the dinner I rely on when I don’t want to cook, and one of my favorite make-ahead mocktails.
These are the exact things I use to keep hosting easy, affordable, and enjoyable.
1. Keep the Menu Simple with Trader Joe’s Staples and Kevin’s Natural Foods
Creating a DIY charcuterie board is one of the easiest ways to offer something snackable and seasonal. I stick to just a few quality ingredients from Trader Joe’s so it feels thoughtful, not overdone:
White cheddar cheese
Honey goat cheese log
Mixed olives
Seasonal fruit (grapes or figs)
Rosemary crackers or gluten-free Savory Squares
If you're new to styling boards or want some easy inspiration, I really like The Cheese Board Deck. I first saw it at a friend’s house and ended up giving it as a gift. It includes 50 cards with creative ideas for building both savory and sweet boards. It’s a great resource when you want to try something different without having to scroll for ideas.
If you want to add a main dish, I turn to Kevin—not my husband, but Kevin’s Natural Foods. His pre-cooked chicken meals are one of my favorite quick summer dinner ideas. They’re healthy, ready in minutes, and perfect with a simple spinach salad.
My go-to side salad:
Baby spinach
Sliced mini bell peppers
Cucumber
Sesame dressing (Trader Joe’s)
Crunchy chili onion seasoning (Trader Joe’s)
📝 Mini tip: Set everything out 30 minutes before guests arrive. Room temperature food feels casual and helps you stay out of the kitchen once the night starts.

2. Add Something Homemade Without Complicating It
A quick homemade dip can make any gathering feel more personal. This homemade hummus recipe is easy to whip up and pairs perfectly with veggies, pita chips, or on the side of your salad.
Easy Homemade Hummus Recipe
Ingredients:
1 can chickpeas, drained and rinsed
3 tablespoons tahini
2 tablespoons olive oil (plus extra for drizzling)
Juice of 1 lemon (about 2-3 tablespoons)
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
1 garlic clove, minced
2-4 tablespoons water for texture (add an ice cube to make extra creamy)
Optional: pinch of smoked paprika, za’atar seasoning or sesame seeds
Add everything to a food processor and blend until smooth. Add water a little at a time to reach the consistency you like. Throw in an ice cube to make it creamy. I use this food processor and it has held up really well.
Top with olive oil, paprika, sesame seeds or a sprinkle of za’atar. Serve with pita chips, sliced veggies, or spooned onto a salad.
3. Set the Mood With Simple Summer Entertaining Touches
Creating a welcoming space doesn’t take much. These are the small, low-effort things I use to make the night feel intentional:
Battery-powered string lights
A playlist on Spotify
A bowl of lemons or fresh herbs as a centerpiece
📝 Mini tip: Switch off overhead lights and turn on soft lighting. It instantly makes your space feel more inviting.
Easy entertaining favorites:
Outdoor lights | Bluetooth speaker | Neutral table runner
4. Offer One Drink: Mocktail or Wine
You don’t need a full drink menu. I usually stick to one summer mocktail recipe or pour a wine that pairs well with the menu.
Sparkling Basil Limeade (Mocktail Option)
Ingredients:
½ cup fresh lime juice (about 4 limes)
1 to 2 tablespoons honey or simple syrup
Sparkling water (Topo Chico or San Pellegrino)
Fresh basil
Ice
Mix the lime juice and sweetener in a small pitcher. Gently crush a few basil leaves with the back of a spoon to release their flavor, then stir them into the mix. Pour over ice and top with sparkling water. Garnish with extra basil or a lime wedge if you’re feeling fancy.
No time to prep? Just grab Trader Joe’s Sparkling Limeade. It’s light, refreshing, and works perfectly served over ice with a basil leaf.
Prefer wine? I suggest:
· Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc with lighter dishes
· Zinfandel or Cabernet Sauvignon if you’re serving anything rich or meat-based
📝 Mini tip: Always offer water in a glass carafe with lemon or cucumber. It’s easy and makes a subtle impact.
Drinkware picks I use:
Carafe | Stemless wine glasses | Drink dispenser
